Mothering Matthew began with knowing something was different.
At 18 months old, Matthew was not speaking. His mother knew in her heart that something was wrong, even when she was told that boys can be delayed.
She stayed in the pediatrician’s office until someone listened. Eventually, she was told they could explore ASD, handed pamphlets and phone numbers, and sent into a system with 12 to 18 month waitlists.
That first moment should not feel like being dropped into the ocean without a map.
Mothering the Ocean is being built because families need immediate clarity, practical direction, and emotional support right after autism is first mentioned.
The goal is simple: help parents know what comes next, who to call, what choices they may have, and how to protect the good growth that can happen while they wait.
